DigiCam Geotagging with ZoneTag

You can add location data to other photos that you upload to Flickr: photos taken with your phone and not uploaded with ZoneTag (save data costs!) as well as to digital camera photos. No dragging onto the map: this can all be done automatically with location logging in ZoneTag.

How does it work?

Briefly, ZoneTag can privately log your whereabouts. When you upload this log to our server and tell our system to match it with your photos, the system looks for your photos on Flickr that where taken during the log's time span. If you took a photo on Monday, Nov 8th, at 5:30pm, and the system detects in your log that you were in Dublin at that time, the system will tag the photo with that location data.

1. Set ZoneTag to record your location context.

Start ZoneTag on your phone.
Go to ZoneTag > Options > Logging > Settings
Choose whether you want continuous logging or just phone-capture logging. If you want to digital camera photos, set logging to "continuous" while you are taking photos. If you want to location-tag images taken with the same phone, set logging to "phone captures" and keep ZoneTag running as you are taking photos with your phone.

2. If you have a Bluetooth GPS device, you can connect it to ZoneTag to record accurate location logs.

Turn on your GPS device.
Go to ZoneTag > Options > External GPS > Start.
ZoneTag will search for nearby Bluetooth devices.
Select your Bluetooth GPS device from the list that ZoneTag displays.

3. Take photos and upload them to Flickr whichever way you prefer.

If using your digital camera, make sure you set your camera to the local time as it is shown on your ZoneTag phone.
Your cameraphone or digital camera need to support timestamp data for the photos (i.e., embed time in the EXIF header). Most cameras do support this, but not all cameraphones.

4. Upload your location logs
Logs are only uploaded at your specific command. You can delete your logs at any time from your phone and from our servers.

Start ZoneTag on your phone.
Go to ZoneTag > Options > Logging > Settings
Select "Upload Log". ZoneTag will upload the relatively small log to our server.
After the upload is complete, you can delete the log from the phone by going to ZoneTag > Options > Logging > Delete Log.
If you are using a GPS device, you can get your GPS logs in GPX format after you upload your logs. Just goto this page.

5. Use this page to photos that were taken close in time to log poitns in your ZoneTag location log.

Troubleshooting

Why do you not have any context logs from me?"

You have to remember to upload your context logs. See step 2 on the left.

I did that and you still don't show any context logs for me.

I've deleted logs, but my phone still shows that I have context logs

There are two places you need to delete your context logs from. Deleting logs from the ZoneTag server does not delete the logs from you phone. To delete logs from you phone, go to ZoneTag > Options > Location Logging > Delete Logs.

If I turn this on, can I turn it off?

Any time you want, you can turn this off and wipe out all traces of your logs.
